The French would strongly disagree with your assumption because vert is also a name for what we call green. You can look up vert in Wikipedia where it describes its use in medieval times.
The name Boisvert is a very common French name.
French: topographic name for someone who lived in a dense forest or perhaps a copse of evergreens, from Old French bois ‘wood’ (see Bois) + vert, verd ‘green’. This name is sometimes translated as Greenwood.
The Japanese word for green is really closer to blue apparently. So I do not see where green is a universally recognized name, unless your universe is really, really small.
