Ernie seconds the "Drift boat" idea - MacKenzie River driftboat to be exact.

What Brenda said is exactly what I would have said. Drift boats are the ultra stable boats that the fly fishing guides use. (can't say for sure if there is an option for a one man drift boat). Kayaks seem to work the best for the solo fishing trips...

Good luck!

a short ---maybe 10-12 feet--- kayak. select a sit-on-top rather than sit-in kayak. it is cartoppable, light to portage, easy to lauch by a single person in a good sloping riverbank.there should be a few in your area, or surf the web for it.

I love my SOT kayak, but a Hyde drift boat is also a very nice choice.

My husband would be better suited to answering this, but they do make pontoon fly fishing boats for 1-2 people that are capable of dealing with rivers. Search for things like fly fishing cataraft and check to see what the Creek Company has.
