My son loves "Maple Story" which he just downloaded from the web. My nephews who a older in their teens have been playing it for years. It gives you the option to purchase NEXON cash at certain stores to "buy stuff" on the game if you want too.

Personally I like Rpg and Strategy games....... THere are many xbox 360 and ps2 games playable in computer as well. Just that you need a better 3d card and processor in it....

Well, as many people have stated before myself it really comes down to what the person likes. If you prefer a more fantasy, or rpg style, or maybe you like shooting games.
Either way here's a few recommendations.
RPG/Fantasy:
Runescape (simple and free)
World of warcraft
Aion (Released in September)
Silk Road Online (Free)
Knight online (Free)
Oblivion (Not multiplayer, but a GREAT game)
Shooting:
Counterstrike
Half-life (1 or 2.. usually comes with counterstrike anyways)
Call of duty 4
Team Fortress 2
Left 4 dead.
Crysis.
There's a whole world of games out there, most of the games i recommended are meant for online play.

easily the sims. It's not only addicting, but there was something about watching my sims get up fully rested at 4 AM and then clean their bathtub that made me suddenly want to be a little more productive...

World of Warcraft is great but highly addictive, so be prepared for time consumption.
Neverwinter Nights and Neverwinter Nights 2 are also great games... be careful with NWN 2 though, make sure your computer has the capacity to run the game graphics. I had to buy a RAM card to make it work properly.
Knights of the Old Republic is Star Wars RPG with a great story line.
The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion - either will take up hours and hours but are fun and typical RPG leveling mania.

WOW is not the best game ever... though it took me 196 days of the last 2 years of my life to come to that conclusion, but hey if your teen has that kind of time on his or her hands go for it. If not then try webkinz for a preteen to teen girl or perhaps Star Wars the force unleashed for a boy

It depends on what type of games a teenager like. I would suggest asking the person if they like First-Person Shooters, Racing, MMORPG's, and then build a list of game on their genre of interest.

World of Warcraft if you don't mind paying a monthly fee is good. If you feeling cheap you can buy the classic strategy game called starcraft.

Go with mmorpg. They get to socialise with the world and learn a thing or two about human relationships.
Some recommended titles:
Aion Online, Eve Online, Champions Online

If the teenager has an e-mail try runescape,clubpenguin,mapleleaf,etc....

Well obviously no teen is a like, which makes it hard to decide. Girl and boy gamers both have different interests in genres, so it's very difficult to pinpoint you one game, but here are games I would recommend.
Free games- Runescape, Mapleleaf...and then any game from addictinggames.com
Paid games- Spore (Highly recommended), Gears of War (PC), World of Warcraft, Counter-Strike (or any game off of Steam).
Oh, and check out commonsensemedia.org if you want to read about it's ratings and if its appropriate or not!
