How Do You Research Your Writing Topic on the Internet?

Depends on the topic. First I decide what topic I want to write on.

It does not necessarily have to be the most popular.

It also depends on my purpose. Do I want to get a lot of readers? Do I want it for personal information etc.

Let's say I want to get a lot of readers. Then I research what is popular in today's culture, what are people interested in, what is on the news etc.

I also visit forums like this one to see what people are discussing. What is the public interested in?

Go to Google Search and type in Google Alerts.

What will happen then is you will give titles of subjects and topics you or anyone else might type in as keywords when searching for information. Google will then send you alerts on these subjects as they are written.

You can set it up to alert you daily or weekly. What ever your preference is.

Now, when you get those alerts in your email, go and read them if they are compatible with your topic. You will be able to find what you are looking for that way.

One other way is to go to EZINE articles and type in your subject matter there....

You can always put your auto word search on yahoo and this automatically senses your worlds. This way you can choose a topic to write. Go to amazon, the first page usually has good ideas.

There are a lot of great sites you can use to research any topic. Recently I found a great toolbar that links a lot of these sites and makes it easy to search them. Here's a hub I wrote about it ...

watch the popular videos in youtube and see what people are crazy about...including the news..just enounce myspeed all those videos and immerse yourself in the latest trends!

When I hone in on a topic to write about, then I plug the keywords into the search engine and away I go. I tend to use Yahoo more than Google, just because I have Yahoo as my email provider and homepage.

Next, when the list of sites come up, I read the title and the introduction beneath it and then decide if it's what I'm looking for. I click on the site, give it a quick overview, then bookmark it if it has what I need. I usually bookmark 2 to 3 sites if they have what I need in different formats.

Then I go to the library and print them out (I have a laptop and don't currently have my own printer) then I highlight the sentences that have the info I need. Somtimes I will just take notes right off the site into a notebook and put the title of my next article at the top.

If I need to do a survey, I'll ask questions on Yahoo Answers and MSN qna live then pull the data from all the answers and use a quote from two or three people. Then I use the data in my article (for example, "3 out of 4 people preferred Diet Coke over Diet Pepsi").

Then I compile all my notes, data, quotes, etc. and I do a rough outline on MS Works Word Processor. When that's done, I save it then start writing! Then I copy and paste the article to HubPages, AC, Shine, or whatever site I am publishing the content on for that day.

This seems to work for me, and I have a lot of fun researching this way.
