Why do people hate God ?

God is a very misunderstood higher force or being that people just cannot grasp. Think about it, the bible refer to Jesus Christ holding the universe in His hand while using the earth as His footstool. God is... keep reading →

I have known several atheists, agnostics, and pagans who have said, "If the followers of God are any indication, I don't like THAT sort of God"

What they fail to realize is that these followers aren't always very Christ like. Leave it to a few rotten apples to ruin the whole tree. Only God can cut them away.

I don't think that people literally hate God. Perhaps people disagree with the concept, idea, manifestation, imaginary, etc, etc, notion of God. An atheist disagrees with the idea of the existence of a god (it doesn't have to necessarily be the Christian's version of God or the Buddhist's version, etc etc).

I think posing this question automatically presupposes and assumes that one believes in God. Asking an atheist such a question would be similiar to asking someone why they "hate" Santa Claus or the Easter Bunny. If the subject at hand is assumed to be nonexistent, then how can it ultimately be hated? Someone or something nonexistent cannot contain or hold properties other than the property of nonexistence.

Anyways, I don't believe that people literally hate God, they just aren't fond of the literal concept and/or theory of God/ a god/ god(s). Much like those who believe more religiously do not literally hate "science", just the theories it poses which give no credit to the god of their relgious affiliation.

People that hate God dont know God. Besides who is their god. If ill things happen to us should we blame God. Just the idea of blaming God is as obscure as a coin with two sides (as all have). There is not only God there is ALSO the Adversary and it is him you should blame and hate, he has disguised himself and influenced millions to hate God.

People Do Not Really Hate GOD

How could any one possibly hate GOD, that makes no sense.  What I hear when people say they hate GOD is they hate their life and they really wish they had the knowledge and power to change their life... keep reading →

Well, before actually hating God, one must be persuaded of his existence in the first place. If one believes God exists, and hates him, then he/she probably has a lousy lot in life and blames whatever they perceive to be pulling the strings, i.e. God. Others may hate God because he allows for violence, disease and death in the world and they find that rather distasteful.

But let's get one thing straight, atheists don't hate god, or rather they can't. If an atheist claims to hate god then he is not an atheist. The hatred would imply existence and atheism is simply the lack of a belief in that existence. You can call us disbelievers, heretics, and infidels but not haters (we can leave that job to the fundamentalists).

I think that is the flip side of the coin... if you believe in a loving god that is watching out for you, then when he seems to favor everyone except you, this love is tested and eventually, after desperate prayer and no result, may turn into hate....

I believe a person who say's this is hurting inside and has suffered some sort of great loss or disappointment. They do not no how to handle the situation except to be angry and sometimes when they do not know where to direct their anger, they direct it at God. Many people who are seriously ill, or have a seriously ill loved one, or have lost a loved one go through this. It is Satan's way of using the situation to cause a rift between them and God. This often occurs with people who believe in God but who are not practicing believers. They do not have a firm foundation of faith to build their trust on. They do not understand that God is always in control and with His help a practicing believer can use their Faith to let God stay in control and carry them through any situation even unto death.

I agree with HOOWANTSTONO when he says that people that hate God don't know God. To know God is to love God. Some people suffer greatly whether it be through sickness, physical disability, loss of a loved one or some other tragedy. It's easy for them to blame God or to ask why did God allow this to happen? Without knowing God they drown in their grief and can't be consoled. It then becomes very easy for them to lash out at Him. Quite often when someone is at their lowest, God will use their situation to draw them to Himself.

I can understand why some would or could hate God - I did too at one time. When bad things happen to us in our lives we look for a scapegoat and God is a convenient one.

It could be just the term God and how some have used it. However if you set the term aside for a moment and look at what God might represent instead, you'll find LOVE.

So replace the term God with Love and as you come to “Know Thy Self” you'll awaken to and realize that YOU are that Love.

You've only separated from it in the identification of the Story of your humanness, the illusion of who you think you are,

Awakening or enlightenment is the seeing through the illusion of separateness to the Oneness that you really are.

Forget the term God if you must, just replace it with LOVE!

hubber-2009: Speaking for myself, as an atheist, I do not hate god. How can I hate something that doesn't exist. What I'm unhappy with is 'christians' who try to push their beliefs on others, and a country that supports them.

John 15:18-24 “If the world hates you, you know that it has hated Me before it hated you. If you were of the world, the world would love its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.” Remember the word that I said to you, ‘A slave is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you; if they kept My word, they will keep yours also. But all these things they will do to you for My name’s sake, because they do not know the One who sent Me. If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not have sin, but now they have no excuse for their sin. He who hates Me hates My Father also.” Verse 25 “…THEY HATED ME WITHOUT A CAUSE.” I have a hub called "Love & Hate: Evangelizing the Truth" that goes into much more detail of this phenomenon.
