I always thought it had something to do with blue laws, which forbade certain vulgar activities that were frowned upon by our Puritan ancestors. Blue laws weren't codified; they were a matter of regulating social behaviours, locally, as I understand (possibly incorrectly) the meaning of the term. That would lead to another question: why are blue laws "blue"?

Blue films are taken very secretly and earlier it was taken in night times or with bedlamp lights. Also Blue is a colour that can trigger sexual feelings. From then on such movies were called blue movies. But, now such films have grown up so bigger that they are now picturised even in day light. But, the name remains like that. I dont either why it is call blue film but for me "blue film "always associated with something sexy,and not kind of porn look like or hardcore in worst
