Attention small business owners, where have your most qualified leads come from?

It has to be from article marketing and ad swaps where i give away e-books with my product ads imbedded in them.

when we owned a moving company it started with yellow pages, but once we had a few clients the real business came from word of mouth

We have used social and business networks extensively to promote our business especially on Ecademy and Facebook (wher we have more than 13000 direct connections). In addition to above trading portals like alibaba.com was alos useful for us to generate our leads without any website.
