The Sound of Music was based on the Von Trap Family SIngers that escaped from Austria when Hitler took it over and Capt. Von Trap was suppose to serve in Hilter's military service. He refused and after he married Maria, his second wife. They all escaped from Austria via Switzerland into the USA and moved to Vermont. Marie and Capt. Von Trap had their own children and one of their grandchildren or great grand children, Elizabeth and siblings are still touring the USA in Cathoilc Churches singing Catholic songs of Praise.

Capt. Von Trap died before Marie did, and after Marie died the family split up. Most of the children from the first marriage have long since died and some of the chilidren from the second marriage are still alive in Vermont. They have a website.
