Stranded On A Tropical Island What Would You Do?

It would depend on2 things. 1) What supplies I have and 2) who I'm stranded with.

Oh and one more thing; How big is the island?

I mean if it's just a rock surrounded by hungry sharks it would suck.

On the other hand if its on a large tropical paradise and a young Scott Bakula is there....

Well then we're talking X-rated Blue Lagoon.

I've always dreamed of being a pirate. I'd be tickled pink. First thing I'd do is remove the resrictive clothing and weave a loin cloth out of it. Some coconut halves to cover the top and set out to find appropriate place for my trees house.

Look for scantily clad women and Internet access

Looking for fresh water would be the first, then food and shelter. These 3 important things make up the Trinity of what we need to survive.

If it was a tropical island that no one owned, I'd buy it. I'd manage to survive (because I was born in one of these tropical islands) and I'd be a millionaire.

This is a great question, because I think the answer in this day and age is quite a bit different than it would have been even just a few short years ago.

First of all, though, if I'm going to give an honest answer here, the thing I would have to do frequently is to pray -- pray for rescue, pray for a peaceful heart and a good attitude, pray for wisdom and good decisions.

The hardest part perhaps of a situation like this is that you don't know if you'll be there for a day or two, or for the rest of your life. Knowing the answer would certainly help you establish priorities.

I suppose, though, that the things that need to be done include:

1. Before nightfall, find a place that will be safe for sleeping. A cave could work.

2. Find something to drink (fresh water)

3. Find something to eat. I'm not sure how many days it would be before I was willing to eat bugs and worms, but at least a few days ...

4. Get some sort of assessment on the geography and size of the island; climb to a high point if possible to get a good look around. This might help with establishing where you want to set up camp for the long term.

5. With all the satellites and things like Google earth, it seems that making a large sign like "HELP" or some sort of indicator that the island is inhabited would be extremely helpful. Be sure to get the sign right though. Remember the Far Side cartoon where the plane is flying over the beach, and a man on the beach is waving his arms wildly, excited at the thought of being rescued; but his sign that he drew on the beach has partially washed away, and the pilot says, "Oh never mind, it just says HELF," as the plane flies away ...

After doing that step, then at that point you may as well assume you'll be there for the long term. I'm reminded of Swiss Family Robinson, which had one fortuitous event after another. The father was remarkably adept at being able to say, "Ah, here we have the so-and-so plant; we can boil its leaves for tea and then use the fibers to make our own clothing; we can use the roots for medicine and we can use the stems to make hand woven cots."

Or something like that. :-)

The first thing I would do is search this tropical island in search of women,no women?,o.k. I would bore out one of the palm trees make a couple of paddles and get the heck off that island.

I would be watching out for natives of the island and also checking for shelter and keeping away from certain plants and bugs.

I would watch the sky daily and search for a way off of the island. Whatever I could do to make the best of it all, I would at least try until I could try no longer. I would repeat every memory of the show called "Survivor Man" over and over in my head and try to figure out how to stay alive and safe for as long as I could. Oh yeah -- I'd be praying a lot too.

I'd have to find some drinkable water and some sort of food first then go exploring to see what the island has to offer.

You did, after all, say a tropical island, I may not want to leave!

Depending on a number of environmental factors, i'd need to start planning how to be resuced.

Being on a tropical island could be many peoples idea of paradise, but it would have it's downsides; mainly lonliness and lack of internet!

I would make the best of it, make myself at home, and pray there are no natives that will hurt me..

Make the best effort I could to survive as comfortably as possible until I could be rescued. It would be nice to think the island had a good supply of fresh drinking water and food, some books and paper and pens and a box of paints would be nice .... or maybe a mobile phone so my family could come and rescue me.

First, I would cut down all the trees and then use them to build a giant raft. I would build giant propellers out of the palm trees and but them onto the back, and then build a pulley system so that I could crank them around. Then I would drive off in style!

Several things would factor in, however, if it were a LOST situation and anyone I loved was still alive with me. I'd kick back and enjoy it. No bills, no job, and no deadlines.

I'd hunt fish and build a kick ass treehouse!

First thing I'd do is cover all of my tracks so that no one even suspects that someone is on the island. Then I'd just relax.

Four things first. Find a sharp object I could use as a machete. Find some flint, kindling, and firewood. Find a source of fresh water. Then I'd find shelter, including lots of leaves or something I could use as mosquito netting.

The fifth thing would be, if I encounter natives, to learn their ways and language and generally try to get along with them.

I'd have bulit a fire, got food (coconuts) and just pretend it was a holiday, no use crying. Just use what you have!

i would do what any other sane person would do.look out for help. any like anyother situation like this i know after a while i would realise no dude nothing is gonna come this way.though still hoping for some one to rescue me.will pray to GOD, wondering why me. and if i survive all this then i would have story to tell of my survival and the faith in GOD. if i dont then, hmmmmmmm i would be a forgotten story myself.

I could say that I would prepare this and that, but I still would be lost, so I would just try to make a time with it. I guess hunt, fish, meet some islanders that might be living there, and hopefully not die. You have to make something good out of a bad situation.
