Does anyone have a detailed sure fire method of outlining and finishing a novel? Do you start with the plot or the characters?

I think you must know the most important things about your story before you begin writing. You should have some kind of plan about your story including: character, plot, setting, conflict, outcome, etc.

But there are plenty of ways to start a novel and no 'one' way is the correct way. Heck, some people just start writing and let it lead them to the end.
