If Adam and Eve were the only two people on Earth, who did their children marry?

Adam and Eve were not the first on the earth. Read the Bible better and will find the texts. In Genesis 1:26,27,28,29,30.God said how created male and female, blessed them and said "be fruitful and multiply". After that hard work should pass a lot of time, because the Bible says "there are the generations of the heavens and of the earth.."

But suddenly in 2:6 the Bible says "but there went up mist from the earth and watered the whole face of the ground" That definitely should be a kind of flood... deluge... When the earth surface was dry again it is not clear, but then God created Adam from the dust of the ground (maybe the ground of Eden).

Then if I should be more correct a very big part of the first human race vanished because of natural disaster. Then God created Adam giving him a living soul and put him to live in the garden of Eden...

'Adam and Eve had other sons and daughters' (Genesis 5:4) and incest was not an issue until Leviticus 18:9, on.

Adam was created perfect but released the law of sin and death (Romans 8:2) into the universe by eating the forbidden fruit, and along with it every form of degeneration (Romans 8:22).

Noah was called 'perfect in his generations' (Gensis 6:9) which in Hebrew is 'tamim', which some believe implies physical perfection, free of the taint of the Nephilim - the demonic hybrid strain.

There also seems to be a misconception here that God hid a lot of data, yet on Resurrection Sunday, Jesus met two distraught disciples on the road to Emmaus and asked them what was troubling them. Not recognising Jesus, they began to relate to him their hopes in their Messiah that had been so cruelly dashed at the crucifixion. Then Jesus reponded, in Luke 24:25-28.

And he said to them, "O foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken! Was it not necessary that the Christ should suffer these things and enter into his glory?" And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he interpreted to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself.

This is the key: the whole Bible is not just a story about mankind or even God and mankind, but about Jesus.

Genealogies come and genealogies go, and many simply fade into obscurity. But one genealogy persists throughout, like a golden thread running down through Bible history - leading to one man: Yeshua HaMashiach - Jesus Christ.

Taking the names that ARE recorded in Genesis from Adam to Noah, you uncover the Gospel message in their original meanings:

Adam (Man or Mankind);

Seth (Appointed);

Enosh (mortal, frail, or miserable);

Kenan or Cainan (sorrow, dirge, or elegy);

Mahalalel (the Blessed God);

Jared (shall come down);

Enoch (teaching, or commencement);

Methuselah (his death shall bring’ or, ‘When he dies it shall come’);

Lamech (despairing); and

Noah (to bring relief, comfort or rest).

As a genealogical list in English they merely read as: ‘Adam, Seth, Enosh, Kenan, Mahalel, Enoch, Methuselah, Lamech and Noah’.

But in Hebrew they form a narrative: ‘Man, appointed mortal sorrow; the blessed God shall come down teaching; his death shall bring the despairing rest or comfort’.

In Islam we are told that the law was different then, to reflect the times and necessities they were living in. Now, it would not be allowed for a person to marry their brother or sister - that would be incest and a big sin. However, we are told that Eve gave birth to many sets of twins - about forty (people lived alot longer then than now) and each twin set was a boy and a girl. These were not allowed to marry each other, but could marry from a different set of twins. This was only allowed in that time due to the necessity. Cain and Abel were in one of these sets of twins, and the story is that they had a dispute over a girl, because one of them was allowed to marry her (he was not born with her) and the other was not.

Perhaps they weren't the only two people on earth! You mustn't believe all you read, after all the bible is only a collection of stories, with many inconsistencies.

I also ponder over this thought.We know they had two children Cain and Abel all boys. Did God create another set again? or where there more children.

The Bible is a mixture of allegory, myth, history and, let us not forget, salvation.

The creation story in its entirety is allegorical. Adam is indicative of "the first" and Eve is indicative of "mother of humanity". One is "heaven", the other "earth". Abel and Cain art indicative of the ability of man to choice the rigtheousness or iniquity; that which is acceptable, and that which is rejected. Also Abel and Cain is representative of those who chose life and those who chose death.

The "trees" of the Garden of Eden represent the different "consciousnesses" that man mayest enter into. The Tree of Life is the God-consciousness that makest one One with the Father. The Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil is the "consciousness" of duality in the world, as opposed unto the Oneness that Is.

Man hast chosen to eat of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil.

Either they marrried each other or god put people in their life. the bible have all the answers.

Ahh, it's never said that they were the only people on earth, it only said they were God's chosen and created. Adam and Eve's sons married women from Ur, and the bible talks about Cain going to the land of Nod- another land full of people.

It's a bit ambiguous, but it's made clear through careful reading that there were God's Chosen (Adam and Eve and their descendants) and the rest of the people.

The bible also originally had one of the commandments saying no other Gods - plural- before me. This implies that there were other gods about, likely with their own peoples.

In Genesis, each person had his firstborn son, AND other sonS and daughterS. This means that each couple had at least 5 children (2 sons + 2 daughters + firstborn). I once made a calculation, and I don't remember the exact number, but the population of the world by the time of Noah was tens of millions. After the flood the population of the world was at least 12 (Noah + his wife + Ham + Sem + 2 daugthers of Ham + 2 sons of Ham + 2 daughters of Sem + 2 sons of Sem). Also, once I read that jewish tradition holds that couples until Noah had 8 children each. Considering that men lived an average of about 800 years or so, they had one new child every 100 years.

I asked my Father that question when I was in Junior High and he just looked at me. He had no answer. I was taking my first Anthropology class and it had been suggested that, perhaps, the answer was Evolution. Man had evolved in time to provide mates for the children of Adam & Eve. Could it be possible? I don't know. But my Father and I still argue about it!

I agree with what most of the others have said; in fact, it is biblical. Cain and Abel married their sisters, and in those days it was not considered incest. In fact, it was the way God intended to keep the blood line pure. If this question was asked as a way to "stomp" believers, that was a waste of time. The bible was written based on who the writers thought were the most important to be mentioned or who God inspired them to write about. Not all of the children of Adam and Eve needed to be mentioned, but it is common sense that in those days, women had many children and of course brothers married sisters.

Well the first question that needs to be asked is. Did Adam and Eve really exist? We have to understand that the First part of Genises is a Creation Poem. It is not an actual event. For how would Moses know what happened. He was not even alive. Yet maybe Adam and Eve did exist and at the time God created them. He created other humans as well. Let us remember that God Bara (Creates). His Nature is to create. So it would make since that there would of been other people created. But since Moses, wrote Genesis He would of only come from his perspective to explain to his children, grandchildren, how humans and life came about. And the thing with Moses is he would write and than in the middle of his writing he would start writtin in poetry form. This is a poem to help the Isrialites understand themselves.

I think it says god created adam and eve first, NOT only. Maybe there were other creations around too. Good question though, kinda gives incest a foothold doesn't it?

Their children married their other children. There are reasons this is acceptable:

* Adam & Eve had complete original genetic material. Today, close intermarriage is taboo because of the weak offspring which eventually result from close intermarriage.

* There was no standard to go against. How could marrying a sister or brother be wrong if there was no other option?

* Who was around to criticize? The only other people around would be those who were doing the same thing. They would not condemn it.

Marrying a close relative become taboo only after many generations, new camps, and new communities of people had been formed. When familial relationships were forgotten and not traceable... AND birth defects from close intermarriage were apparent, then society rejected close marriage for marriage into different families.

their children did it with eachother, we are all one big family. its kind of strange since its frowned upon by everyone, and yet when you think of it that way, hooking up with any1 should be frowned upon haha.

Any species with a limited genepool is doomed for failure, ask any dogbreeder, but acording to the scribtures, this happened at least twice, once with Adamn and Evel and again with Noahitall...so much for the clean genepool on the second occation! What on earth could possibly posess anyone to take this literally? Debating about the morals and age of the time? would that change the genetic imparitive?

They were 900 years of age? was there no gravity then? if that was really the fall of man, we'd have to assume the same physical laws for them than for us, making the whole idea more than absurd. At 35 you can start to observe the degeneration of skin and cells, not to mention wrinkes and hanging extremities coming later... what would a human look like after 900 years of being expesed to the elements?

In fact, if you read carefully, the bible and studies on it show that there were, in fact, other people on earth at the time of Adam and Eve.

This is why some people formed the religious conviction of "The Master Race", that claims the true people of God are living amongst beasts (re:Hitler)

Of course, some might say that anyone who believes in an imaginary parental figure in the sky who can see and hear everything you do, even just in your mind, can make sense out of anything.

Adam and Eve were the first people to be in the image of G-d and live on the level we now know as 'human'. There were other races of people (see the other races as mentioned in Canaan when Israel finally gets there) but they were not on the same level so they were not in the Garden at the time. Adam and Eve's children married these other races (as in those who were still going through evolution) and brought the world forward in history and evolution at the same time.

Cain, Abel and Seth took their own sisters as wives. Keep in mind that, unlike us, Adam and Eve were genetically perfect and carried that genetics for the entire and incredibly diverse human race. A match between siblings that came from genetically perfect parents would have resulted in the beginnings of the unique and individualized gene pools. For example, if Cain were born blonde and light skinned but brother Seth was born with dark hair and dark skin a dominant genetic type would have begun in each of the boys. Adam and Eve had a tremendous number of genetic codes which their children could be conceived with or conceived without. Since then the codes in which each individual carries within his or her DNA (in terms of dominant and recessive genes) has continued to be reduced by the seperation of culture groups. Furthermore our genes have experienced considerable damage over time. This damage has been caused by the constant cellular mutation that goes on within our species all the time. (Almost all mutation has negative affects and causes the loss of genetic information.)

To get children, the married couple who have at that time. To keep going regeneration of the billions of people as now.

We as children of God must recognize the devil when he or she raises his ugly head.There will always be many questions raised about the Bible...some questions will come in the form of truly wanting to know the Lord and his works, and some questions will try and confuse the ppl. of God. We as believers must know what is truth, and be willing to live and die for knowing... that our Savior Jesus Christ is real, and he is the son of the living God. God shell return again with all power in his hand. Jesus is Lord. I won't respond to this question due to the fact that I see many true and respectful answers. It is the right of each and every man,woman ,boy and girl to believe what they will...we live in a free society. But this I do tell you that God is real...and his word doesn't lie.You may try to add to the Bible or take away from his word but in the end God's mighty word shell stand....and God tell us not to add to his word (Bible) or take away from his word (Bible)..when all the fighting is said and done God's words shell stand. When God comes back for his children that have trusted and believed and waited on his glorified return...God's word will stand. it doesnt matter who married who,and what child came from brother,sister man or woman. The question is do you believe....the Lord told us to trust and to believe in his word. This is a wonderful question! it gives us all an opportunity to chime in.

Adam and Eve's children married each other. For every son that was born, they had a daughter. Read the book of Adam and Eve it explains much.

As far as Noah and the flood go, i guess I couldn't answer, unless there was a lot of inbreeding between cousins. As far as Adam and Eve, It says that God created them first, but it never says he created them only. Other animals he made most likely in large groups, why should humans be so special?

After all, 'humans are pretty much just another animal. But because of our so-called "higher awareness" we are sometimes better, but more often worse, than those that walk on all fours.'

Adam and Eve were not the ONLY two people on earth at the time. I know lots of people will disagree. Adam was the eighth day man. I know the bible says Eve will be the "mother of all living" , but I do not take that literally anymore. I remember when I first heard this, I was angry too! I thought it to be a sacrilige. I read the first chapter of the bible again, and it turns out to be true. This answers the question of some critics why the bible "contradicts" itself. l realized that we as human beings contradict it instead. This is probably because people have a tendency to misinterpret written works, whether intentionally or not. I am not saying that intermarriage wasnt common, though. I am well aware that it was, as some other posts here pointed out, but Cain took a wife from another location, and another people. Want to hear more of my opinion? I'll gladly hear yours too. I'm no know it all!

People are missing the point. God created man good and to live forever. Even after the fall, the bloodlines were incredibly strong and could withstand marrying siblings. When, in time, the bloodlines had weakened, God gave Moses the Levitical laws that would prohibit this.

I don't think this is really that difficult to understand at all.

Because Eve was shaped from Adam's rib by God, why would it be any different for God to continue doing the same with the other males until enough males and females of age were available to mate to perpetuate the human race?

There's nothing in the Bible that would contradict that, and it answers a lot of questions and problems.

The answer the question is God probably took a rib out of them and shaped their wives as well, as the first three children were males.

Well...the answers have to be searched in the Process of Evolution. Nothing came to Earth Pre-Ordained; whatever happened, was by Accident (or in better words, Natural Choice/Selection). Even the Human Species did not make its Entry Overnight; the Modern Human Homo Sapiens came from its Ancestral Species like Homo Neanderthals, Homo Erectus etc. The transformation occured in several (in fact thousands) small steps. What is most likely to have occurred is that a slightly Advanced Species of Humans mated with a Slightly Primitive Species (and there were a good number of them at any time), and due to the process of Natural Selection, the Dominant Characteristics Evolved. That gave the structure to the Modern Human, and they adapted to the landscape as per their Physical and Biological characteristics. Due to Natural Selections and/or Mutations, Brain Size may have won over Muscle Size, and thus the Humans became a Social Species living together in groups instead of the Single Living Ferocious Wild Cats. As Social Bonding helped humans to succeed more, sexual selection or more Social Mates happened. And so the Social Nature of Humans grew even further and further, until we, the present City Dwelling People evolved from the Clan Dwelling Ones. That in my opinion is the most Probable Answer.

Well, to their own (brothers and sisters married each other), at the time, Adam & Eve probably had thousands of thousands of children in order to please God to spread into the world that he (God) created.....within that time in history the human mind wouldn't even think of geneology..

You are eligible for the rapture after you accept Jesus Christ as Lord and savior, receive baptism as He did, and live out your faith. The book of revelation makes it clear who will be raptured it is those living on this earth when Jesus comes the second time as king of kings and lord of lords. There is no mention made of clothes whether you take them or not but the book of revelation does say the saints will be given new robes that are white, and a new name. Read the book it's all there and not the way the media protrays it eilther they get alot of it wrong.

I ponder around this question since I was 12.

I'm now 31, and convince I can see the truth behind the fact that bros and sis and cousins can have sex between each other without sinning. Like Isaac who married his own relative, by the help of God.

Dig this: GOD NEVER CHANGES. I just simply cannot accept the idea that if human did "X" in the past, God would've been hurt, but if human do "X" now, God will be OK. Same goes with the other way. I cannot conceive something that was OK for God before, but now suddenly it's NOT OK. God never changes, so this means His True Divine Morality never changes either.

So, what changes then?

Look, here's the fact:

What changes, is OUR PERCEPTION of God.

That's why throughout history, God must give law that contradicts one time from the other. Like it was not OK to eat certain food in OT, but it's OK now. Not that God changes His Ultimate Divine Eternal Morality of what's Good and what's Evil, but He needs to do that according to our finite temporal, subjected to change kind of MIND (our mind, that is), in order for us to conceive His True Moral Decree.

In Jesus, there is no more sin.

And Jesus says whatever you do without faith IS a SIN. So for those who think drinking coffee is a sin, then it's a sin for him.

So this means whatever you do WITH FAITH, is NOT a SIN.

The Law has been written in our own heart. Our own conscious (HOLY SPIRIT) is the one that convict us of approving or disapproving whatever it is that we do.

SIN if it's against your own conscious, NOT SIN if it goes with your conscious. Simple as that. That's what it means by Law is written in our heart..

So if one feels guilty over anything, that's the devil who accuse. But Christ has freed us from devil's accusation.

But it's up to us to accept it, or not..

It's our current defected morality that declares to have sex with certain people is unacceptable. That's Human Defected Morality for all of us..

When told about Adam and Eve,an Apple is always mentioned.And it was the important thing that needed attention.Adam and Eve were accessories that can bring charm to a story like it.

They said that Adam and Eve were very pure and had no thought of sex(or desire in its initial form).When Eve looked at the apple,a desire starts in her and that desire started way back has no end till now and has been increasing.That desire made her pluck the Apple,and eventually eat it.

According to genetics or probably what you call DNA,Initially there was only Woman species on earth,i.e, the cells contained only X chromosome.Later on,The Y chromosome or the male chromosome evolved from the X chromosome.They say it as the reason for male domination.Because X evolved from Y,X dominates(we see this in general life too,younger generations are more intelligent).
