Smaller charities. With large charities such as these the majority of the money the raise go back into their infrastructure not into helping people. Goodwill is the worst because they take advantage of their charity status in order to pay slave wages.

The shopping experience is better at Goodwill. They have a wider variety of items displayed in a more inviting way. The pricing is good with certain color tags giving you a discount and certain days with 50% off sales. They offer help to the needy offering jobs as well as handouts.
However, The Salvation Army gives out both food and clothing to the needy. Their stores don't measure up to Goodwill, but their hearts may exceed.

I have had better luck at Goodwill, as far as shopping goes. Salvation Army's prices are high, and they never seem to have much for younger people.
