For cleaning I would use the 5 star shine system.I know several people who have used it on cars,boats,motorcycles and airplanes with great results.My son uses it on his race truck and mud does not stick to the sides.It is that slick.
About the maintenance on the motorcycle,well I think that would depend on the make and model.If in question on service intervals I would refer to owners manual or internet if no manual available.If just purchased used I would change all fluids and filters.Give the motor a tune-up and would get the emissions checked.(hc and co)That will give you a good idea what kind of shape the motor is in if used.
