Who Has Actually Lost a Job In the Past Year?

That would be me. After 27 years working as a contractor at the US Naval Research Laboratory funding ran out on the project. I only have three years before my planned retirement and we have been planning for this to happen so I am not in as bad shape as some people.

I have been unemployed for 6 months now. The economy here in southern New England is deplorable. Money is tight and the wife and I stuggle daily to make ends meet. Still I look around and see many worse off than I, so we count our blessings and hold firm in the belief that it all works out in the end.

I had to leave my job due to a number of reasons. Luckily I had money set aside that has been keeping us afloat. But for the past three months I have been searching for new employment and failing miserably. And I am not that picky. I want something good but I am not afraid to work the menial jobs until I find that something good. Even with inside refrences at some places I can not get hired. they just don't need me. They can't afford more people on the payroll.

Waterdamage - You really needed to say that?

My husband was an airline pilot and got furloughed as of October 2008. Furlough is basically unemployed, just means they will call him back first before they hire new employees. Nothing really on the horizon for getting back into flying. We've just been getting by with consulting work.

I lost my job a few weeks ago. It's tough, but we all have to make it through. The economy is bad an a lot of people are getting the short end of the stick. It's pretty ugly out there. And we are now all fighting for the same jobs. The world is getting smaller as immigrants are coming into the country and also fighting with us for the same jobs. So, no one is safe!

I must raise my hand also because I was laid off this past April but thankfully for the internet and The Peoples Program I have been able to still take care of my family.
