Is 6 too young for a girl to start playing golf?
I have a 6 year old girl and she's expressed an interest in golf because Dad plays. I'm not sure if she's old enough to start.

Not at all. I have seen children much younger on the practice ranges and even playing on courses at those times when they are almost deserted. Phil Mickelson started golf at the age of two with his father.
Golf is not a strenuous game. It is not taxing on the muscles or bones. It is a game that requires some flexibility, rhythm and skill. The flexibility and rhythm comes naturally to small children. And it is so much easier to learn and pick up the skill at an early age.
If she wants to play, you must encourage her. See how she progresses. You might well be witnessing the blossoming of another Annika Sorenstam in your home! But don't push her. Let her enjoy the game, and let destiny, whatever it has in store for her, take its course.
I wish her, and you too, good luck and happy golfing. :)

When children are exposed to any activity or sport they tend to develop interest (especially at her age). It may or may not be a passing interest, but I think (at least for now) it's a great way for her to have something she can share with her father.
She may find golf is something she'll always enjoy, or she may lose interest at some point. At the same time, she may become a pro. As long as she's interested in it I'd go with it. If, at some point, it seems to start to "take over her life" while she's still a child, some careful judgments may have to be made.
In the meantime, I'd just go with it. It's a nice thing. Kids enjoy, and benefit from, the chance to become involved with different activities. Sometimes parents' fear of "pushing" their children results in their denying kids' the chance to take part in constructive activities. Caring, cautious, parents generally know when their child's interest is his own and when it isn't.

I think it would be wonderful,...One reason is that it gives you quality time together,..2,..who knows you might have another "Tiger Woods" in the making, and reason 3,..she might develop a real passion for the sport,..and sports are a great ways to keep kids off of drugs. allthough I will add,..putt putt golf might be a little funner for her,.plus the bathrooms are easier to get too than out on the green,..LOL.
What age should you be to start playing golf?
The first lesson for any parent is that golf is a game. Games are about fun. Winning is the result of having way too much fun. If the child wants to play golf, then any age is OK to start. Just don't try to... keep reading →

I wrote a nice hub on turning your kid into a cash cow by forcing them into sports early and living through them (jokingly of course)! You can take a look if you have time to kill.
