Fun places to visit in England

Sorry it's so far for US hubbers, but Broadstairs, Kent, UK. Not Ramsgate or Margate to each side, but Broadstairs is a very special and lovely little seaside resort and, despite all the attempts, not completely ruined by the horrors of 21st century England: the supers, car-parks, one-way streets, hooligans and all. There are seven great beaches, about 100 pubs, four of which are top drinkeries. Lots of medium priced lodging and a cute old harbour with lots of memories. In fact, I like it so much, I decided to be born there!

I love Brighton which has a great beach scene. Before visiting England, I had no idea that there were great beaches in England.

I think you need to be a lot more specific, really. The answer would be completely different if you are asking about a single person aged 22, a family with toddlers, a couple looking for romantic spots, etc. It also rather depends what your idea of fun is!

Bath is a great place to visit, for architecture, shopping, countryside.(See my hub) Dorset is my favourite for beaches, walks,views - especially Studland, Kimmeridge, Corfe Castle.

There is a lot to see in London. We have lots and lots of Tourists who visit all year round.

Why not venture a little further north, into the beautifully lush and green county of Shropshire? Full of picturesque villages, reasonably priced accommodation and an almost infinite number of real ale pubs!

Add in the stunning views, an hour or so by car to the Welsh coast and that particular shade of green, exclusive to Shropshire and you have a winner! Visit my Hub on The Wrekin for an example of how beautiful and historical this county is.

When you say England, do you mean England or Britain. If you only want to see England you are going to miss a lot of lovely places in Wales, Ireland and Scotland.

I agree with the other answers - it depends on what you like doing and what part of the country you are going to. With our weather it also depends on the time of year! London is a good all round choice, but if it is summer and you want the beach try Devon and Cornwall, if you like history there a lots of old towns, castles and stately homes (try Warwick), or for beautiful countryside try the Lake District, Scotland or North Wales

North Devon is a passion of mine at the moment. Depends what your idea of fun is really. If you are after glorious countryside, stunning coastline, quaint fishing villages and a romantic moor, North Devon's got the lot! If it's wild night life you are after Cornwall might be a better bet :-)

I can't believe people told you to visit Scotland and didn't notice your profile says you've lived there LOL

If they are still doing it, and I bet they are, go to Cromer for the pier show in the evening. Very funny and entertaining. Lots of great talent.

Try the Lake District.

Between NW England and Scotland and full of .... lakes. But also hills and mountains, beautiful scenery, historic settings etc etc.

The Roman city of Chester in the North West has the only unbroken set of Roman walls in the country - you can walk round them all the way - and also has England's oldest racecouse.

There is a heck of a lot to do and see there, and many people stay for a week or so, seeing not just the sights in town but also using Chester as a base for travelling to places like the Snowdonia National Park in nearby North Wales.

Please see my latest hubpage - Hedingham Castle, Essex is a beautiful medieval gem of a building. Rochester Castle, Kent is well worth a visit too. Leeds Castle (in Kent) is excellent but can be very busy in summer!

Try the North west of England,Places such as Manchester,Liverpool or Newcastle in the North east. These can be fun places for the young and the people are a bit more open and friendly than those in the south. However,if you have kids then Blackpool is the place to go. Miles of sandy beaches and some good fun rides on the pleasure beach and if its raining, then there is plenty of indoor entertainment as well.

Besides London, I really enjoyed Stratford-upon-Avon where Shakespeare was born. It's a theater town where I saw a great performance of Midsummer Nights Dream. Check out the Chicago Bar if you go - It's hilarious as an American to see what they call an "American style bar".

Bristol - Best of everything. really gren spaces, large shopping areas, waterfront spaces, churches, cathedrals. Just a lovely place all round. otherwise got o Cornwall and Devon, they're picturesque.

Why not try Bournemouth in Dorset? It's a lovely student town by the sea.
