Start in one room and don't move to the next room until first one finished. Start on the top by cleaning the windows and blinds. Clean the baseboard all around the room. If possible move furniture so you can clean space where funiture has been. This by the way, will be the dustiest place in the room. Clean ceiling fans if you have them. All of this can be done with a moist rag. You're really just trying to get rid of dust that accumulates over time.
If you need to get into closets to organize clothes and get rid of stuff you don't want or use anymore, now would be the time. Clothes can be donated to salvation army, etc. Don't move stuff from one room into the next if you will not be using it. Attics or basement can be a great place to store things but remember, if you won't use it, get rid of it.
