What do you think it would take to make the nation at large sit up and take notice of God?
Essay would be great. You have one sure reader. :)

I think the nation, in general, very much already "takes notice" of God. I believe, if I'm recalling correctly, surveys have shown that a majority of citizens believe in God (even if they don't attend church).
People who privately have their belief in God, don't attend church, but try to live a decent, caring, life (even if that life may break a rule of any one or more religions) don't talk about their faith much. Still, from what I've heard, the nation is still very much predominantly a "God-believing" nation. Throw in the anagnostics, who haven't entirely ruled out the idea of God; and some atheists who are very decent, moral, people - and I don't think the whole picture is nearly as dismal as it may look.

the only thing that would make america believe in a god would be a second Sinai, national revelation all over again.
Take notice of GOD
Thank you for the request. I was asked to write a Hub on the question "What do you think it would take to make the nation at large sit up and take notice of God?" First thought is to realize how HE stood up... keep reading →

Thank you for the request: My answer will not fit here, it said to make a hub about it, so I am working on it.
It is a fearful thing to try and answer. But I think it should be said "what it would take for ME, not America, to sit up and take notice of GOD" (answer is in paragraph) If we all answered this question, did as we were instructed, the question you asked me would have an obvious answer. I say forget about any of us "sitting up" and taking notice of GOD, rather get on our faces first and seek HIS FACE, then HE will tell us when we can sit up.
2 Chron 7:14 "if my people, who are called by MY NAME, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek MY face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and I will heal their land."
If our leadership read the hubs I wrote and followed the instruction therein, Americans and the whole world would know that GOD is moving in our midst and we would not have to spend a dime on advertising it. Did it take any ads after 9/11 for people to overwhelm churches and synagogues? Motives for that are unknown. I did notice that it did not take long for the building to be back at status quo. Why, because the leadership and teachers and in those building are lacking the power and authority in what they say and do.
You cannot keep people by following what is in the stupid little bulletin, doing the predictable, the calculated, the entertaining, the power point or the feel good time of appeasing the sheep.

The Rapture! Jesus Christ coming back for His Church(believers). The resulting chaos surrounding those that are left behind will make believers out of many and glorify God.

Fail safe! Nuclear detonations of dirty bombs (yes, that is in plural sense) within continential United States. Hawaii and Alaska not included in this equation. At that point it will be too damn late! That is exactly what it will require. Peace.

Excuse me for answering your question with part of your question, but an act of God is what will really make us take notice. Also giving those indivuals that already believe in God concrete proof of the existence of God so those working for God (which is suppose to be all of us) will have a more convincing argument to convince others of His existence. Like, a certain landmark that is being heavily guarded in a country cut off from the rest of the world. Maybe when they allow us to go check it out will there be that miracle.

This is an interesting question, but as a christian my belief is that reading bible is a good start, and applying it correctly to our lives.
My belief and experence is that the Bible does have proof of truth, and miracles, but the awnser to your question basically is what as a nation would make us listen to God, that is a diffucult question, because collectively as a nation there are many different conflicting beliefs as to who who God is... and how to know God, so I don't actually think its possible for every single person to know God...
below is a website of how I came to know the true god if its of any help to anyone - www.tjc.org - god bless All

The problem that many people have with the concept of the Christian or Hebrew, let's say Abrahamic God is that the indications for His existence are not very strong using current standards.
* the Bible has competition from other books with similar claims to another God or other Gods. The Bible does stand out to those who already have faith in it but not on it's own to newcomers.
* the world as such is wonderful and so are many creatures on it but the explanation of creation has competition from natural explanations.
* due to the increased worldwide communication the personal experiences of God or the Holy Ghost have been shown to be widely varying in content. In the past one only knew the inspired Christians in ones own community as witnesses. Now we know that there is an unconcilable variety in messages people witness to get this way. See 'A personal relation with Jesus' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kLBDFe3mDtk .
Therefore to make the nation at large take notice of God would require an unambiguous apparition which could never be explained with psychological or technological causes.

I see an increase in joblessness, homelessness, famine, disease and death in our State and Country. I see an increase in crime. An increase in immorality. We use to be a major player. Now we are a broke Nation in need of major prayer!
