Never buy cheap shoes? Whatever you say, say nothing? Those are two that my father gave me. Both have been instrumental in shaping my (warped) development.

Don't stay out late at night. Example 12am, 1am etc. (My Dad always used to say this to me).

Don't let the door hit you in the....

No but seriously, don't forget that you can ask for help. No one has all the answers and starting out on your own can be overwhelming. Ask for advice, ask questions, ask for directions...it never hurts to ask.

If you've raised them well then there's nothing to add but a kiss on the cheek and an "I love ya!" Don't let them know that you're leaving the porch light on for them, just in case!!

"Lock up your (ipod/cell phone/digital camera/laptop) when you're not using it, because I'm not buying you another one!" :)

Between all three of my kids, I've replaced enough stolen iPods and cell phones why they were at college to keep Apple AND Verizon in business for the next 10 years!

If they are heading off to college I suggest you show them my hub College- A Retrospect. First check it out to make sure it is appropriate, but as a recent grad I consider myself a semi-knowledgeable creature.

Some of the same things I tell them now, really.

Don't play in traffic, sit facing the door, if you talk to strangers, ask good, identifying questions, that sort of thing.

But for a grown child, I would add, Don't waste time making everyone around you happy at your own expense. It never, ever works out.

Of course, they never, ever listen, either *grin*

You can vote each answer up or down to show your support or disapproval. You cannot flag an answer, but if an answer receives enough down votes compared to up votes, then it will become hidden.
