Are you an African American voter who DID NOT vote for Obama? If so, why?

I fear I am the only one...I know my reasons, I would love to know yours.... What do you say to people who assume you voted for him because you are black?

I am black and I did not vote for Obama, and I will not vote for him if he wins the nomination in 2012. And the primary reason why that is the case is Obama is a Democrat. I never have and never will vote for a Democrat politician.

That is the way I feel about things because, in my opinion, the Democrat Party has inflicted more damage on blacks than the whites who imprisoned their enslaved forebears ever did.

Throughout the years, the Democrat Party has installed a wide range of government-sponsored social programs that are nothing more than updated versions of what took place on slave plantations when the masters tossed the "darkies" a few scraps from time-to-time. In other words, because of what could be described as the Democrats' give-away programs, a large segment of black society is just as dependent on the goodwill of whites and government as its enslaved forebears were forced to be.

Furthermore, because of one of the Democrat Party's main platforms, legalized abortion, millions of blacks have been murdered before they were even born, which translates to black genocide.

Finally, I must say that because Obama is a Democrat, blacks have no business voting for him.

I hope people didn't base their vote based on the color of President Obama's skin. I'm glad that we have gotten so far to have a black president and I have personally met President Obama twice when he was running for senate, he's a good man. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. said it correctly, "I have a dream that my children will not be judged by the color of their skin but my the content of their character."

I hope that people can apply that same logic to voting too. President Obama, in my opinion, was the better candidate, but I voted for Hillary in the primaries, but it had nothing to do with any loyalties with her being a white woman. I voted for her because of her health care policy.

Maybe I can answer this for any African American who didn't vote for Obama... they didn't think he was the better candidate or undoubtedly there was something they just didn't like about him.

I did vote for Obama, but would like to say as an addendum to braudboy's comment:

I do know some Blacks that didn't vote for Obama, most of them felt the same as F. Kenneth Taylor. That is probably the most common response you'll get. In a nutshell, politicians are politicians and they trust none of them. So all of his context was all politic talk, his ideals were politically driven, and he's no different than the rest of them. That's fair.

I know a couple of Blacks that didn't vote for Obama simply because they are Republicans and always vote straight ticket Republican. Which, in my opinion, is little different than voting for race, but that's an issue I'll save for my own hub.

What I'd like to see, something I've yet to see, is a Black person that voted against Obama because they thought the McCain/Palin ticket was better. No one seems to address that. It's always who voted "against Obama", but never who voted "for McCain". Ever notice that?

My daughter is. She says he has a sneaky face and smokers lips! I tell them, you don't know me-- I am not your average black woman! She is dictating to me!!! Just because you are a certain color does not mean you are uneducated!

I hope you don't mind my weighing in, but I have to say, that anyone who might have expected African Americans to vote for Obama because he is black is like assuming that every white person voted for McCain. I most certainly did not vote for McCain.

I understand what you are trying to ask, but for anyone who might not, I just wanted to add a layer of perspective.

I did vote for Obama. I would do it again in a heartbeat.

MiMi, you aren't the only one. I didn't vote for him (not only because I did not believe he would honestly NEED MY VOTE to secure the presidency and I was not in agreement with some of his views), but because I never intended to when he was just a running candidate. I usually stick to my guns, no matter what. I will say this though: I did NOT give my vote to any of his white counterparts (and YES I did vote), but that wasn't because they were white.

Hey there Mimi, I realize I am late getting to this question, but I didn't vote for Obama either. With the way our political system actually works, and the two party lock on major media, the debates, and my extension many state tickets there's plenty motivation not to vote at all. This was the first election I voted in since I turned eighteen some ten years ago and the last one I will vote in so long as we have an electoral college and corporate candidates. I did not vote, nor support Obama in anyway. I campaigned for Gravel, I got the word out about Cynthia Mckinney, and I ended up voting for Nader. My vote and my actions were a form of protest because unlike many I already knew who would win the presidency and what would happen afterwards. I now patiently await the day when my father realizes speeches and black skin don't mean anything without integrity.

Many people think that Blacks who didn't vote for Obama simply don't like him or thought he wasn't the best candidate. . .That's such a "shallow" thought, when there's more important reasons NOT to vote for a candidate. The reason I didn't vote for Pres. Obama has nothing to do with him or the fact he's black - For reasons I won't mention here (you probably wouldn't believe me anyway). . .I simply don't trust the American political structure, or judicial & voting systems.

If you want to go by exit poll statistics there are two simple reasons that showed statistical differences in the "non-white" vote for Obama.

1: If you have a college degree you were less likely to vote for Obama

2: As your income rises you were less likely to vote for Obama.

This part of the poll didn't break down blacks vs. other non-whites and it is almost impossible to find statistics on that as they would lead to an interesting question:

If both democrats and republicans know that blacks are more likely to vote republican if they are more educated and successful, would it not follow that for purely self-interest reasons that republicans would want to work to make blacks more educated and successful and democrats would want to work to trap them in poverty and ignorance ?

Unless of course you don't believe politicians act in their own self-interest ?

I've only met a handful of black professionals that didn't vote for Obama. History could have been made as much as a decade ago when the black community could have rallied around Alan Keyes. The Democratic party, by and large, cannot hold a candle to either his moral aptitude or his IQ.

I would like to hear from an African American voter who did not vote for Obama. THe polling suggests that well over 90% of these voters made their selection for Obama.
