How do I get people to leave comments? So far it's only been family.

I don't know how well this will work, but specifically asking for feedback sometimes helps.

Join more fan clubs with different people. A lot of us will get an email when you post a new article, so we can then make a comment if we chose to. You can also answer questions here or on other sites and link back to your articles.

Also, link your site to social networks like Twitter or Digg if you choose to want comments. Don't think that comments decide the popularity of yuor articles. Most bloggers will just read and move on, but will still get value from what you write.
