The term "flat feet" can be understood in a variety of formats, although there are possible exercises to improve the body's alignment. There are two general types of muscles that need to be stimulated, fatigued, and strengthened to improve arch height.

First, you must work the intrinsic muscles of the feet by using a towel that is laid flat on the ground and use your toes to scrunch it up. Repeating this works the small, minuscule muscles along the bottom of your feet. Complete three sets of fifteen each.

Secondly, and most importantly, working the extrinsic muscles of the foot will improve biomechanics and therefore result in an increase in arch height. Reducing the collapse of an arch or excessive pronation can be reduced by doing simple exercise of weighted squats and lunges. This strengthens major muscles that are used as levers, assisting the foot in a more natural stance. Completing three sets of ten on each exercise two times a week can improve overall body function and biomechanical efficiency.

Solving flat feet starts with non-surgical methods. This includes shoe orthotics and exercises. The orthotics are important to prevent a regression while your exercises strengthen the muscles, tendons and ligaments.
