Well....it depends on a few factors. How much do you want to spend? How often are you going to go? What sort of climate will you be camping in?

If you're budget conscience, you really can't go wrong with the tents at Wal-Mart. They are affordable, easy to set up and if it gets ruined, you can always buy a new one without breaking the bank. i have several Wal- Mart tents and they've served me well for different types of camping.

For backpacking, you might want to invest a bit more $ getting a good tent. They feature better and lighter materials and are worth the extra money for these features alone.

It just depends on the aforementioned factors really.

Seeing as how you have asked specifically for a family tent, I will assume that you are not needing a backpacking tent or one for harsh environments. If your children are older then maybe you are thinking of some more extreme campouts, and in this case you will need to spend more money...and perhaps look at a Kelty tent, or a Eureka tent.

Assuming that you are not looking for more than a summer time tent, you have many more options and can go with a Northwest Territory tent from Kmart or Sears, or maybe even a Coleman camping tent for a few extra bucks.

Now comes the question of the size of your family...you should always divide the recommended capacity in half, so if a tent is supposedly a 6-person model, you should expect it to fit 3 adults and some gear.

One of the tents that I have had my eye on is the Coleman Sundome 10' X 10' dome tent, here is a link to an article about it.

This would be a great tent for 4 people, but if you have a larger family you might need to look at other models or two tents for your family.

Family Tents - Which Ones are the Best?

A good family tent needs to be spacious, warm (but not hot), comfortable and keeps you dry. Normally, family tents are only for car camping and many are too heavy for backpacking anyway. Weight is not much of an issue when choosing family tents... keep reading →

This is a VERY opened ended question. The only thing I can tell you is after you find the tent you choose, make sure it is always properly tied down! Having your tent fall over due to poor tie down methods in the middle of a storm makes for a very bad camp out.
