What is the use of v-lookup command in ms-excel and how we can use it?

I use v-lookup when I need to append data from one list to another. For example, if I have List A with names and addresses, and List B with some of the same names and phones, and I want to append the phones from B onto A so I have complete contact info, I would use a v-lookup for the match.
Or sometimes I use it when I have a list of 'flags' I need to append - for instance, a do not call list I need to bump against a list of phones.
