Make sure you visit the right places. I've been to many foreign countries, and people often have a vision of the United States that does not match the area they are going to. For example, I've talked to and heard of numerous Germans, Italians, and Brits who want to see the "wild West" and have plans to go to New York. This won't work, and this creates many European misconceptions of Americans. If you want to see Cowboys go to
the Dakotas, Montana, and Colorado, If you want to see the cities and sports teams, go to New York, Boston, and Phillidelphia, and if you want the surfers and beach atmosphere, go to Florida or the West Coast. Also, don't worry about people trying to steal your things, like anywhere, most people in the country are very freindly and hospitable, just don't go into the bad parts of the big cities. One last thing, if you want to get a real taste for America, don't stick to New York City or Washington DC, get out into the counrty a little, be adventurous.

Hold your belongings if you can. Someone is waiting to take stuff from tourists. Don't speak to anyone who will not speak to you. Enjoy, be safe.
