The way I have been told about it: Soul is the essence in you that is connected to God and is eternal. Spirit is the breath of life, whether that is physical life or eternal life.
irenemaria says
The Greek pneu?ma (spirit) comes from pne?o, meaning “breathe or blow,” and the Hebrew ru?ach (spirit) is believed to come from a root having the same meaning. Ru?ach and pneu?ma, then, basically mean “breath” but have extended meanings beyond that basic sense..

I like the breath and breathing and don't know what the difference is between soul & spirit. I like the hawaiian word 'Aloha" which roughly means "I breathe on you"
alo, 1. sharing 2. in the present
oha, joyous affection, joy
ha, life energy, life, breath
Here's a link about bible differences:

Both of those words are used in a lot of different ways, but I think one difference (regardless of one's definition) may be that "soul" is generally associated with something either deep within us, or something of which our very being is made; while "spirit" seems to most often be associated with our "essence" or "being" that's not so much within us; but around us (while still being a part of us) and connects us to the Universe on one level or another (and whether or not we're still living in the Earthly world).
So, I'd say that soul is our private thing that's ours alone (or else that's between us and any God we believe in), while spirit is the part of our "being"/"essence" that's shared with the Universe.

Neither one is accessible or visible, I believe a soul is connected to God directly, and the spirit channels that connection via your body allowing for life pulses to be sensed. Like a radio Transmitter & Communications tower, with powerful RF energy and them huge Antennae's.
This all must occur in the spirit world obviously, which none of us can see, nor hear or detect with instruments, or even measure unlike light beams or atoms or electrons.
In other words, we must believe in such things, to even think of coming up with a distinguished differential.

Soul and Spirit are two different things. Soul is anything living that has a brain. Spirit is the dynamic aspect of the Soul which shows that a force exists. The mind is a Spirit. http://mintinfo.hubpages.com/hub/About-God-Soul-An

This question reminds of the 3 part being of man - how we are a spirit with a soul inside a body. The spirit respresents that eternal part of us; the soul includes the mind, will, thoughts, and emotion of us; while the body is the flesh.
That's why we find in John 4:23 that true worshippers will worship God in spirit and in truth. Those are the kind of worshippers that God is looking for because the body and the soul do not always want to worship. That is why we have to feed the spirit man spiritually through God's word, worship, prayer, and praise, and forget not His benefits - eternal life being one of them.

It is like the seed(Spirit) and the soil (SOUL). . The soul is a slave to spirit. What ever you place in the soul grows. It knows not nor understands what or why it grows it JUST DOES. Yet the spirit is the knowing part, it makes a choice and becomes the stuff that makes it what it will be. I hope you can understand. Blessings.

There is no difference at all. Both are one and the same. We term it as Self or Atma in Hinduism. All the four constitute one and the same. Some call it as God!
Rev. Akins says
I guess if you want there to be a difference, you could say the Soul is the eternal part of you that is human and the spirit is the eternal part of you that is of God. The breath of God (spirit, pneuma, ruach, etc) that entered into the world with Adam and Eve.
I would honestly say they are two words that have the same meaning.
