We had no whitetail deer here in southern Georgia until some local hunters had a railroad carload of Wisconsin whitetail deer shipped in during the late fifties. Now, the bag limit is twelve per season and the population keeps growing.
We humans are the among the very few predators left to control the population of the deer herds. Hunters kill less deer than the local traffic and much more humanely. We have been hunting for thousands of years, no need to stop now!

The pros are that in hunting for our own meat and doing our own butchering we can save money on food.
Another pro is that we have an almost certainty that the meat is not contaminated by chemicals.
The cons are that if it is not done properly you can take a chance on harming an animal which escapes an is left in an inhumane manner if not found. If not careful you can leave a calf motherless.
If you do not use proper hunting procedure it can be dangerous. If you do not use proper butchering and storage procedure you can get food born illnesses.
I do not believe in hunting for sport.

If we don't have a hunting season on wild game, they will eliminate themselves thru starvation, inbreeding and disease.
The meat eater animals will come into your home and eat your pets and you,if we don't control their numbers...

For meat to eat. We are omnivores. Animals have a right to live? Tell that to a lion hunting antelope or whatever.
Or, just tell the antelope to say to the lion: "Stop; I have a right to live!"

A well regulated hunting and fishing program is the best conservation program you could ask for. Sportsmen contribute more funds to wildlife management than can be imagined. They easily contribute more to conservation than the loonies at peta.

I enjoy a sport, which I have made into a profession and which I know is making a difference in Africa. How many people you know can actually say that they can measure the difference they have made, or count the animals that they actively conserve.
I know I can.
As far as where I get my justification, I get it from the ultimate authority, God himself. Genesis 9:2-3 After the flood, God told Noah: "The fear and dread of you will fall on all the beasts of the earth and all the birds of the air, upon every creature that moves along the ground, and upon all the fish of the sea; they are given into your hands. Everything that lives and moves will be food for you. Just as I gave you the green plants, I now give you everything."

Pros : it brings in revenue for the country and its people, it creates jobs for local people, it gives local people a better understanding of wildlife and how/why to protect species, it gives farmers one of many reasons to keep game, instead of destructive cattle.
Cons : As with all money-making industries, you will get those that exploit for greed. They hunt unethically and give a conservation industry a bad name. This is the only con.

Hunters are the ultimate conservationists. Ethical hunters seek out older animals to make room for the younger ones...
As man spreads out ... and takes more of the wild lands .. the animals need to be controlled... and better by a hunters bullet .. quick and humane... than by a truck or car on the "NEW ROAD" that will then cost possibly the life of the driver and others in the vehicle ... damage to the vehicle ... and last but not least the death of the animal and the waste of the meat.
