It doesn't matter how domesticated the animal is, or how lovable it's temperament is... any animal, when provoked enough, will get pissed off. Babies and children tend to not know their boundaries or their strength, and so when they give attention to a pet, it can sometimes be too much.

Although a dog may not attack your babies or children, there is always a chance that it may. Just be wise: don't let your kids pet a strange dog without getting permission first from the owner. After all, you don't know what sort of personality that other dog has, or whether or not they even like being around children! With your dog, or any other, just make sure to supervise the child around the pet, and make sure they are gentle and respectful.

Well it all depends on whose dog it is. What type of dog it is the temperament of the dog and how the dog is raised. Most dogs have an understanding that children are harmless and there is no reason to bother them, unless the children do something to provoke the dog chances are he wont attack them. If you already have a dog and an infant is brought into the family since dogs are pack animals they more than likely will accept the role of guarding and protecting the infant.
