Loading... You are not a Catholic but your wife is and want to have your kid baptise, what do you do?
Cross racial marriage, frequently are also cross religion marriage. Personally I believe a parent should never force a child into a religion and should have the right to choose his/her own religion, as long as it is not religion such as e.g. scientology. Catholic religion culture involve giving the child god parents and have them baptised. So, if you are not Catholic and your partner is, would you allow him/her to baptise your child or let the child make his/her own decision, when he/she grow up?

I don't see the harm in letting her do it. I am an atheist married to a Christian. I have no problems allowing them to attend church or pray before meals.

I would have hoped that if two people of different religions were considering marriage, the issues of how any children of the union would be brought up in regards to those religions were discussed BEFORE the marriage.
In Catholicism, baptism is essential because without it, that child would not be "allowed" to enter Heaven and would be doomed to spend eternity in Purgatory. Personally, I don't see what "sin" an infant could commit to suffer such a fate, but that's the belief....kind of a "sins of the father" thing.
I don't believe that a religion should be chosen for a child, however, if a baptism is important and will give peace to one parent, I don't see the harm in it. After all, how can the child give "consent" and vow to remain Catholic when he or she can't understand what is happening?
Again, this issue should be brought up before the marriage, but, if it wasn't, and one parent doesn't believe in the ritual, but it doesn't hurt anyone, why not agree? The child will still be free to chose his or her own religion later on in life.
