Travelodge are a good budget hotel - but decent quality. There's one in Wembley which is good for central London and the Brent Cross Shopping Centre. You can get a room for less than £25 per night.
Travelodge also have a hotel near London City Airport - it's slightly dearer, but still often less than £30 per night.
There's a hotel called the Generator which is very popular with young people looking for cheap accommodation - but it's really more of a hostel than a hotel. It has a lively bar in the evenings!
