I use Benchmark Email for my email autorepsonder. It also lets me link my email account to my wordpress blog via a plugin.
Super easy to send out blog posts via email.
Like alongduffy says , you could also try google group to get started.
However i found it kind of limiting once i started emailing more.

2) if you really want free newsletter just subscribe give your email address
