I used to have a problem with cold sores whenever I was on the verge of coming down with a cold or flu. I read in a health magazine that taking a high potency B vitamin could prevent cold sores. I have been taking the high potency B vitamin every other day for a couple of years now and I do not have a problem with cold sores any more. Also I would make an effort to never let my lips get dry, especially in the winter time. I seemed to be more susceptible to cold sores if the condition of the skin on my lips was compromised.

The vitamin L-lysine acts as a preventer. Take one a day for best results. There is also a new L-lysine lip balm on the market, usually sold at GNC's that works when you apply it when you feel an outbreak coming or when you are in hot sun, very cold weather, are stressed or run down as during these times you are more vulnerable for an outbreak. Take 3-4 tablets if you start getting one and each day until its gone. It will shorten the length of time you get one. Hope that helps.
