I'm old school about it. When your kid is old enough to start asking questions, its time to start answering them. Sex is a natural function of life and should be openly treated, rather than just hidden. Now I'm not saying that you should be getting freaky in the living room with your kid watching, but you should also never act ashamed if your child is asking why your screaming in the next room.

If you are waiting until they are a teen-ager, you are too late. Most kids these days know a lot about sex before they leave elementary school. Make sure they realize the facts about sex and STDs and how important it is to stay safe and protected. Beyond that, it's best to keep an open avenue of communication where your teen feels comfortable talking to you. Let them know your views and feelings about waiting to have sex until they are older, but most importantly find out their feelings about it so you can have conversations with them and allow them to feel valued and listened to.
