As said above abstinence is the only 100% effective way to prevent an STD. A condom used correctly every single time would be the most common, but nowhere near as effective as you would like. Knowing your partner and getting tested before engaging in any sexual acts is probably the next best thing. If you get caught up in the heat of passion GET TESTED the worst thing is an untreated infection or disease. Most can be treated if you know about it. Also, many come without symptoms so the best route is to get tested.
