it was over the top and we have still not heard the last of it yet, he was a legend and a huge icon but people are forgeting his dark and mixed up side,

No, I do not think so. He is an American music icon and its typical that the media is drawn to every move MJ made or his family or anyone related to him.
I am still sad to this day of his death. I think often time allows people to forget and perhaps the media coverage will also die down after a bit. But for now, I think its good because he was a legend and we should remember him.
