If you have a problem with someones lifestyle are you a bigot?

Its appeared to me that if you don't agree with or support gay issues you are a bigot. My question is the same true for those who oppose a Christian lifestyle?

It only makes you a bigot if you treat homosexual people differently than other people. We all have different beliefs, that is life. You don't have to agree with other peoples beliefs but learning to accept that others are different and treat them with common decency is key.

I don't think disagreeing with a lifestyle or point of view makes you a bigot.

My interpretation of the word is that a bigot is someone who is not prepared to listen to alternative views or even consider them.

If you listen and accept that someone else has different views, attitudes or behaviour but you don't agree with them that's fine.

Unfortunately religions of all types are convinced they have all the answers and everyone else is wrong which is why we have people prepared to kill because of their bigotted beliefs.

You only have to consider the number of people who have been killed over the centuries for disagreeing with official religious views which in some cases have been proved to be completely false. Galileo was tried and found guilty of heresy for believing that the Sun was the center of our solar system and not the Earth. Fortunately he was only given house arrest until his eventual death but almost certainly if he had been a poor person without important friends he would have been killed.

People may disagree with a christian lifestyle but it doesn't make them bigots. It simply means they have another point of view. Live and let live.

Why are you a bigot,if you don't agree with someones lifestyle?

Being a bigot means being intolerant.

You can be tolerant, and still disagree as long as you aren't a fanatic who feels an uncontrollable urge to do or say something thats considered violent in nature.

A hate crime isn't being tolerant.

A hate crime is being intolerant.

Do what ever you want as long as it isn't against the law.

If the law is intolerant then ,try to change the law.Take it to the supreme court for review or challange.

You may be called a bigot if your intolerant of another religion or sexual practice. The point is; is it tolerable by the general public or not. Some people don't agree that your personal sexualality should be publicly displayed of any persuasion. It's a cultural taboo in japan to publicly show affection for example. nursing mothers is another example.

I do not believe you are a bigot if you do not agree with or support a gay lifestyle or any other lifestyle for that fact. Each person has his or her right to their own opinion or feeling about something. As long as you are not disrespectful to the person in the lifestyle and can act like an educated adult (leaving nastiness out of the picture!) ,having different opinions, likes and dislikes in this world does not have to mean you are a bigot or any other negative connotation. I am a Christian, I believe in God, I believe what the Bible say's. I do not think a gay lifestyle is what God intended for us BUT I do not force my opinion on anyone, I have had gay friends in the past, I have a gay cousin, who I love very much and I would NEVER be disrespectful to them nor their significant others. I believe a gay person is a human being who deserves the same love, friendship and respect that anyone else does. God does not approve of hatred, violence and oppression of gay people. God is love. God is compassion. God is light.

A bigot is defined by Merriam-Webster as "person obstinately or intolerantly devoted to his or her own opinions and prejudices". So if you're going around telling someone who is gay that they're a sinner because it violates YOUR opinions and beliefs, or if you're fighting to deny them equal rights because if violates your opinions or beliefs, then you are a bigot. If you simply don't agree with homosexuality (not sure how you can really do that as it seems to me it's like saying you disagree with heterosexuality since both are natural states of being), but "live and let live" and don't vote FOR discriminatory laws, then you're not really a bigot.

How do you "define" Christian lifestyle? Because the life *I* lead as a follower of Yeshua bin Josef (commonly referred to as Jesus the Christ) is a hell of a lot different than the life led by the money-grubbing televangelists like Pat Robertson, James Dobson, Fred Phelps, Benny Hinn, Jimmy Swaggart, Jim Bakker, etc. And I'm sure there are a lot of variations in between. The Amish consider themselves Christians and live a lot different lifestyle than Christians who live in the modern world. Mormons consider themselves Christians, although most mainstream Christians do not.

However, that issue aside, what faith one follows is a matter of choice: being gay is not. So you're really asking to compare apples and oranges. If you discriminate because of someone's orientation, that's like discriminating against them because of the color of their skin. It's not something they can control. If you discriminate against someone because of their faith, it's something they DO control. But I can disagree with modern Christianity's teachings (and I strongly do) without discriminating against those who hold those beliefs. I don't consider myself a bigot because I don't agree with someone else's beliefs.

Nope on your first comment.

Bigotry and prejudice mean being opposed to something for no reason.

There's plenty of reason to be opposed to gay issues.

Yes to your second comment/question because there is no reason to be intolerant or afraid of a Christian lifestyle.
