As we move around during the day, we get a tiny electrical charge called static electricity. If we happen to touch a doorknob or other bare metallic object, this charge jumps away from us into the object.

The problem with computers is that the data is stored in a magnetic system, by ones and zeros. Magnetism is actually electricity, and when you let that little static charge into a computer or a computer component, it can easily destroy the data stored there, and you will have corrupted files.
