Trial and error. Perseverance. Just like learning about writing and/or making money on the internet.

I walked my son around by him holding his hands so that he understood what it meant to walk. When I noticed he would start letting go of things and just stand there for at least 30 seconds, then I would start setting him standing in the middle of the room, let go of him and caught him when he fell. It is something natural though like rolling over or sitting up. They will walk when they are ready to.
