It doesn't look like TypingTornado exists as a user anymore but just to clear up any miseducation, as there is so much out there, people with Type 1 diabetes, like myself, live well past the age of 30 if you take care of yourself. Also, although obesity is known to contribute to Type 2 diabetes, it is not the only cause. Improving your diet, getting exercise, and most importantly, continually consulting with your physician will help control both types of diabetes.

I am type one and most of my family have diabeties and are also type 1. I totally disagree with they are fortunate to live past 30. My father does not look after himself and this shows failing eye ruined kidneys and liver. But my mother and myself eat health, inject regular and they to exercise have none of these problems both of my parents are 50 and i am 28.

One of the other differances is type 2 diabetics can't get ketones.

the world health organisation has a number of classifications of diabetes.

type 1- the pancreas does not produce insulin, presumedly due to the destruction of the beta cells by the immune system, normally presents early in life and requires insulin for management

type 2- insulin resistance, commonly the person is obese or overweight. normally presents later in life though the obesity epidemic is seeing children in their teens developing this condition- previously known as MODY (maturity onset diabetes in the young). can initally be treated with diet modification, weight loss and exercise. medication is required if after 6 months the blood sugar level remains high. this can be in the form of tablets but incresingly the use of insulin is being promoted as having better long term outcomes.

gestational diabetes- happens in pregnancy and makes the woman more likely to develop type 2 diabetes

diabetes secondary to drugs and medical conditions such as recurrent pancreatitis.

keeping blood sugar levels under control is important to prevent eye, kidney and neural disease as well as to reduce heart attack and stroke risk.

Smilefreely. It is true that Type 1 diabetes always requires insulin, however type 2 may require insulin as well. This happens when type 2 diabetics cannot get their high glucose numbers under control with diet and medication.

Diabetes is a progressive disease regardless of the type and will inevitably worsen over the years. People can often control or even reverse their type 2 diabetes through diet. this requires work and many people have a problem maintaining their diet. Often as the disesae progresses type 2's must begin taking medication and sometimes they must also resort to insulin injections but not always.

In type 1, the body stops making insulin. In type 2, the body does not make enough insulin, or the body can't use insulin the right way. Type 1 diabetes you must take insulin injections but type 2 you may or may not require insulin. Type 1 is forvever..type 2 if caught early can be reversed by correcting your diet

The difference as to how it has been explained to me is that Type II Diabetes is when you only have to take medication and Diabetes Type I is when you have to use insulin injections.

Basically;

type 1 is not reversible

type 2 is reversible; and has a lot to do with weight, sugar in the diet, and fats in the diet, starch turns to sugar. Some artificial sugar substitutes can mimic sugar and still cause reaction as if it was sugar.

Sweet n Low does not. I asked my doctor this.

Hope this helps

under normal circumstances, type 1 is genetic and if you live to 30, you're fortunate. there is absolutely no way you can naturally stop type 1 diabetes that i am aware of. type 2 diabetes -- it's called OBESITY. it's easily stopped by reversing OBESITY. namely -- stop gorging if you're gorging (which you probably are). start eating like you SHOULD. and stop being lazy if you're lazy. start creatively taking care of your body.
