When do u believe that a site is genuine?
Just by seeing an add do u register with that site? By reading blogs,articles,magazines or hubs..? If some body referred u to that site? Or If u came up with a site, do u do ur own google or yahoo search about that site and then join it....

For me, the look and feel is very important. Once that is established, I look for other factors such as have I heard of this sites before? If yes, then I may want to join. Otherwise, i'll wait till next time to join.

Check that the site is contactable by an address and/or a phone number and if so call them, dont join if the only way to contact them is by email address. Check out the authencity of the address by doing more searches as it is very easy to obtain an address these days for £10 a week. Google it to see what experiences other people may of had using that site. Read through all forums thoroughly and then you would have a better idea whether to join the site in question.
