Bamboo is a great flooring material. It's harder than oak. R Oberoi is correct, bamboo is eco-friendly. Some bamboos, members of the grass family, can grow a few feet in a day so they are a very renewable resource. Trees are too, but they take a lot longer to grow back. The only drawback I can imagine - for some people, maybe - bamboo does not strain too well. But then again, who wants a red bamboo floor.

Hardwood is preferred for wood flooring. Even you can use softwood also. But the maturity of tree, that matter. Nowadays Bamboo is becoming very popular and slowly replacing the hardwood and softwood.
R Oberoi says
First of all bamboo flooring is eco-friendly flooring whereas hardwood is not. Secondly bamboo plant takes less time to grow than hardwood trees. Thirdly the roots remain under the soil after harvesting the bamboo. So another crop from the same roots can be obtained and this will be harder than hardwood. Fourthly you need to care less for bamboo flooring. This shows that bamboo flooring is better than hardwood one.
