Are large populations a blessing or a curse for a nation?
Kebennett1 says
Large populations in a Nation create many different challenges. Homelessness, food shortages, the spread of disease, overcrowding, water shortages, depleated natural resources, pollution, trash, ethnic diversity which generally causes racial crimes, traffic, and an increase in total crime. I am sure I missed a lot! But it also adds to the many diverse arts, music, foods, clothing, sports, dance, etc...

In my view, large populations are never a blessing for a nation. You need great resources to cater needs of such a large population. They can be blessing for MNC's who may establish manufacturing units in such countries to take advantage of cheaper labor costs. Another argument may be in favor of NRI's who are earning foreign currency and sending it to native country. But what happens to such earners in the event of recession.

Challenges apart, large population is a blessing in disguise of curse. More and more corporate houses are learning the hard way that Human Resouce is the single larges important factor for success.
I invite you to read "imaging india" by nandan nilekani. the large population of India is actually an asset.
