Hi! I need some advice on my writing.

I am new at blogging, and beginning to explore writing. If anyone has any suggestions, etc. please feel free to comment. I know I have grammatical mistakes and need to work on them. I just would like to improve my writing.

Well, the grammer problem can be solved my simply cut/pasting your hub to a word program and running spellcheck. So now you can just write without worrying. Ive found that writing straight from the heart is the best thing. I call it 3 stage writing. 1st stage is just write as you feel and talk, no commas or any kind of punctuation, dont worry about offending anyone or saying something wierd, just let it flow out of you like water. 2nd stage proofreading, just to make sure it flows all together, when reading your own work it should roll by like speach, if you find yourself stopping at all, then thats an area that you may want to revise, and add specific details or splash some exciting descriptive words around. 3rd stage is Grammer and spellcheck. After all that I read one more time and if it flows, its done.

Hi Shaleen,

I'm not a professional writer, but I have taken many many hours of writing classes, so let's see if I can help. First of all - read more. Read the type of writing that you wish to do yourself. Grammar is important, however, it is not as important as creativity. I would have to say that the only real way to improve your writing is to WRITE. Write every day, as much as you can. Post it on here and ask for criticism. Find other writing forums and do the same. Here is a Google link to some screenwriting forums, however, I'm sure you could find some more suited to your preferred style of writing.

Some screenwriters' forums:

The other important thing is to learn to quiet your inner critic. You know, the little angry person in the back of your head who is constantly spewing insults your way like, "Oh this is ridiculous, no one wants to read about this" or "Are you kidding me? This has been done so many times before". Once you start learning to let words just flow onto the page without editing as you write - things will go much more smoothly. You can always edit later! No one has to read everything you write. JUST WRITE :)

Good luck!

YOUR WRITING IS BORING!

Now that you have read the top line i probably have your full attention because it caught your attention. From taking college writing classes and from my experience with writing articles for several websites the number 1 thing i have learned is you have to suck the reader into what your writing. For example like my top line "your writing is boring"

I read your hubs and i thought that they were pretty darn good. There was some good information in them. Most people probablly wouldn't read the whole thing because they would lose interest in it real quick though. They need a little spice added to them.

The best ways i have found to suck people into your work is to

1. Insult the reader a little bit

2. Be sarcastic when the article calls for it

3. Use Shocking or surprising facts

4. Skip the fluff and get right down to the point

5.Be witty with your writing

6.Most importantly- Have fun with your writing

Here is an example of how I use a very minor touch of insulting to get the reader involved at one of my websites.

Hopes this helps a little and keep up the good work. I would like to see some more informational articles from you.
