My view on "selfless" love for the Divine is that very few people have attained the state, or will ever attain the state for that matter, required in order to render it. I think it is in our nature as humans to be selfish and put ourselves first. We seem to be living in a time of "me, me, me". The "I want it all and I want it now" syndrome I suppose. It is rather difficult to be selfless when the very society in which we live fosters self-indulgence and greed. However, this is not to say that there are not some very nice people in the world. Of course, there are. For example, Angelina Jolie gives 1/3 of all the money she earns to poor children in other countries. That is a significant amount of money. Surely she does that because she loves children. So I don't mean to sound negative about anybody. I'm just saying that I believe selfless love can only be given when one has attained a selfless state. And how many people, really, are ever able to attain that?
