Hmmmm. a large group of people is hard. For less than 10 people I would use monopoly,pictionary and life. Then you have card games which can be used. For the teenagers two pack of uno cards can go a very long way.

Scrabble, Scatergories are two of my favorite board games for a large group of people.
Card games could include: Apples to Apples, Uno, Skip-Bo, Phase 10
Then again it depends on what you call large...If you talking about 10 people or more I would lean more towards card games.
Another game I have a lot of success with in larger groups is Catch Phrase. All these games are quite fun.
