You need money to help others! In fact you can not help others if you don't help yourself first. Just like the instructions you get when flying on a plane: put your own oxygen mask on and then help another. What use would you be to the person you need to help if you're in a need help yourself position?
I think those two "making money" and "helping others" should go hand in hand but not put in a position of rivalry.
Of course it is narrow minded and ignorant to live for making money only but it can not be dismissed or frowned upon as means for "doing good".
Don't get me wrong, I love helping people, I think it is the best feeling in the world but money is an essential necessity that enables acts of goodness as well as evil! Either way making/having/multiplying money is a must.
There may be exceptions such as a hippie type person moving in some remote area somewhere on top of a mountain for the purpose of making a statement and raising awareness regarding an important issue but even then unless they get a lot of attention (which involves media and money) they do not end up helping anybody.
I think I understand your statement but it seems as if it belongs in a context and not by itself in order to make a proper impact.
