Condom manufacturer Durex did a worldwide survey of 26,000 people in 26 countries.

The results: (drum roll please...)

Women: New Zealand top with 20.4 partners (average 7.3)

Also the only country where women outscored (pun intended) the men.

Men: Australia top with 29.3 with global average of 13.2

The youngest to lose their virginity were Austrians, at 17.3 years, followed by Brazil (17.4), Germans (17.6) and New Zealand (17.8)

Again, the reporting error described earlier will be important. You could read into this that Australian men are the biggest liars in the world.

It may appear odd but average in the conservative societies was never more than one to two in pre-globalization era in a country like India. This figure varied among different strata of the society and also according to locations. However, average is going up with liberalization.Earlier social bindings and customs restricted people even talking with opposite sex what to talk of having sex. Opening of hundreds of TV channels has changed the public opinion. Earlier children in family hesitated to view TV program in front of elders but now all inhibitions have gone away.

Statistically speaking the surveys are useless. Men tend to overstate the numbers and women tend to understate theirs. The actual average will probably never be known.

I am 24 and have never had sex yet...I'm waiting for my life-long marriage partner! I'm a Christian and I want to obey God...plus it just makes sense to me what with diseases and children being born without two married parents these days. Judging by the answers here, I would say that housedad is most correct. I think we could safely say that about 90% of people LIE, because they know that we will never know the real truth anyway.

I think it also depends on if somebody is married, single or divorced. I'm a divorced woman at 47 and even though my number is nowhere near as high as some of these guesses it was 1 until my divorce 10 years ago, now it a little higher. So, if I hadn't gotten a divorce it would have been 1 my entire life. My ex husband on the other hand had more partners during our marriage than I've had overall, so.......

This is a very good question. I can really only speak for my age group which is 20-30 years old. The average man i know has about 20 and female is about 12 but yeah men are a little lower and women higher. I didn't have very many cause i always found myself in long relationships.

Judging by most of my friendships (in their 30-50) I know I am not average. Most of my friends would have to average near ten. For me, being a devout Christian, one sexual partner - my wife - and three beautiful daughters to show for it.

I think you need to be more specific with your question. Different people have different definitions of what sex is. For example many do not count Oral Sex as sex. Also, I think Chicago Magazine did an article on the Sexual activity of Chicagaoans in their latest issue...it's at least a start!

This question really depends on what kind of people you are friends with. If you are religious then your number will probably be between 1-2 averaged throughout any age. My guestimate for a male 20-30 who goes out would be between 5-10.

i was going to say the same thing. for those in their 40-50 range, i would guess 4-8.

To get a more accurate answer, it would be better to specify a country, because of so many different cultures the statistics would vary so much. Here in Australia for example, it's generally socially acceptable for someone to have a series of 'one night stands' in between relationships. We have a layed-back culture and many of us (in all the above age groups) are out dancing and kissing and drinking on a Saturday night when we are single...It wouldn't be the same (especially for women) in other cultures, where this may be seriously unecceptable.

Its really hard to predict. But definitely for age group 30-40 the average number will be less than 20-30 average group and for age group 40-50 it again will be lesser. So, if for 40-50 it is around 2 then going reverse will make around 6 for 30-40 and around 12 for 20-30 age group. Thanks and God bless

My guess is that no body knows diddly squat what the number is. It all comes down to speculation. If you grew up in the 60s and lived your early 20s in the 70s then your chances of having a high number of partners is most likely higher than any age group. The age of "love the one you're with" was a hot bed (pardon any pun) of sexual activity and then came the "studio 54" crowd who lived on cocain and disco who put everyone to shame (again, no pun intended)

I would say for women that are 20-30, 5 to 10. My husband only had one before me so I'm sure he's rare. However some of my friends that are girls in their early 20s are near the range of 15. My guy friends, some are around 6 others are around 24ish. You go to Hawaii and the average age to lose their virginity is around 11 so you can imagine how many there are, as well as how many get pregnant early.

I am 22 year old male, not religious at all and I have only slept with 1 gf, ( ex-gf now ) Im kinda proud of that. only 1. You should be ashamed of yourself if you cant count how many partners you have had on 2 hands. Thats wrong and disgusting. one night stands should be looked down upon in todays society. What happened to traditional values? or " Till death due us part" ? I was shocked to see the women with such high numbers, definitly makes me not want to " hook up" anymore with all these STD's floating around.

Where I used to live there were more women than men so I don't see how can an average women have more partners than men. So it depends on the actual location and demographics.
