How is it in the best interest of a child to jail a parent who can only afford partial child support
In a time when so people are losing jobs left and right, non-custodial parents may be struggling to both survive AND pay full child support. I know of someone who is going to jail because he can't make full support payments (he makes partial bi-weekly payments). He did try to get a temporary reduction to avoid this but was denied. Now, because he was only making partial payments he has to do 40 days in jail and will lose his job. How is taking a dad away from his kids and causing him to lose a job it took him months to get in the best interest of the child?

Bottom line, it's not.
The mother of the child could have accepted a reduction, unless this is already going through the state for collections. She could also go plead his case with social services, if she wished. Some women would rather see the hguy in jail though.

that is wrong. i know that if my baby daddy fell behind i would rather get something other than nothing. so what if it is partial its the thought of the child that counts. some woman are just dumb as hell. now if he is not trying at all then screw them,. lock him on up. lol
