Why do a lot of social network members indicate their relationship status to be "It's Complicated"?

I've always thought it's because they are not secure within their relationship (it could be new), or they are not open to dating at the moment (they are going through a breakup, or 'patch up' with their ex, or a Divorce). Everyone would have their own reason for using this status, if you're unsure, just ask them.

From my experience it means they are married or commited and don't want to reveal that. Or they are in a one sided relationship and don't want to cop to it. Either way it probably is complicated so unless you are just looking for a booty call, I would stay away. I would probably stay away even if you were looking for a booty call.

Probably cos it's one of the answers you can select in the drop down list when completing your profile. If you don't fit the other answers this is the one to choose. And you even have to know how to spell 'complicated'!!

Because its hard for them they themselves don't know and try to explain to others it might be
You can vote each answer up or down to show your support or disapproval. You cannot flag an answer, but if an answer receives enough down votes compared to up votes, then it will become hidden.
