It's amazing...but for every desire, there is a person that will fulfill that desire. Some men desire wide hips. Some men desire round butts. Some men desire long hair. Some men desire wide lips. Alternatively, there are some men who are turned off by that. Some men desire petite frames. Some men desire flatter butts, but bigger breasts. Some men love women with short hair. Some men like smaller, perky lips. For every desire, there is a person that will fulfill that desire.
It's just like asking, "Why do some people like chocolate milk versus regular milk" or "Why do some people like chocolate versus vanilla"? Preferances give people the freedom to be who they desire to be.

The reason for it I reckon is that its the way the human genes are programmed. There are some traits that make a person desirable and some that do the opposite.
Its just that the majority of the humans think of wider hips and lips as desirable. But there are a few who may find the opposite attractive.
Its just the way our genes are designed.
